GOOD THINGS HAPPEN IN SMALL SPACES Gabriela's US Book and Tango Tour Seattle author, Argentine tango teacher, and student of life, Gabriela Condrea is on the road in her 2002 Honda Civic, with boxes of books and a yellow hippopotamus. She will tango her way literally around the United States (approximately 10,500 highway miles, through 28 states), offering her book as an excuse to celebrate community and connect people through the joy of dance. Seeking self-discovery, in 2008 Gabriela took a year off from teaching 8th grade Language Arts and set out without knowing exactly where her explorations would lead her. During her journey she met tango, and it was love at first sight. Tango has become a catalyst in her life, shaping her decisions, inspiring her writing, and prompting her to travel around Europe in 2011, promoting and selling her tango-inspired book, When 1+1=1: That "Impossible" Connection, at milongas (social tango gatherings) in 13 cities across 8 nations. Both her writing and her unique style of teaching tango revolve around the theme of connection. Inspired by her encounter with tango and experiences on dance floors from Buenos Aires to Europe and back to Seattle, When 1+1=1 highlights those priceless moments in which we manage to slow down enough to savor the "in between" parts - in between crossing items off our to-do list and running from one appointment to another. Tango, with its direct, nonverbal communication, can help us appreciate the inescapable role we play in shaping each other's lives. "Good things happen in small spaces," Gabriela writes, in those rare moments when we come together and really interact with one another. Her interactive book events are just that - a chance for people from different avenues of life to intersect.
